When the smalltown of Chester's Mill, Maine, is surrounded by an invisible force field, the people inside must exert themselves to survive. The situation deteriorates rapidly due to the dome's ecological effects and the machinations of Big Jim Rennie, an obscenely sanctimonious local politician and drug lord who likes the idea of having an isolated populace to dominate. Opposing him are footloose Iraq veteran Dale “Barbie” Barbara, newspaper editor Julia Shumway, a gaggle of teen skateboarders and others who want to solve the riddle of the dome. King handles the huge cast of characters masterfully but ruthlessly, forcing them to live (or not) with the consequences of hasty decisions. Readers will recognize themes and images from King's earlier fiction, and while this novel doesn't have the moral weight of, say, The Stand, nevertheless, it's a nonstop thrill ride as well as a disturbing, moving meditation on our capacity for good and evil.

See comments for links !Music Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09948261310095800902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163840818671066743.post-61788221371067602102009-08-22T16:29:00.000-07:002009-08-22T17:06:03.496-07:002009 - Crazy Frog - Everybody Dance Now !2009 release from the annoyingly addictive animated character that began life as a popular ringtone before becoming a bonafide Pop 'star'. That, in its purest essence, is JET. And JET, in their purest essence, have again captured those elements with their third album, Shaka Rock. With their previous releases- 2003's Get Born and 2006's Shine On- JET broke out of their native Australia and established themselves as a multi-platinum, international success story, merging the charisma and energy of classic rock and roll with just enough punk swagger and contemporary flair to create something uniquely theirs. Here at last is a band that's returning the cool to rock and roll.
2009's Shaka Rock reveals new dimensions of JET while never losing the raw roots of Get Born or the grace and melody of Shine On, which together went on to make JET an international band of style and substance.

See comments for link !

Music Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09948261310095800902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163840818671066743.post-63300233651082272872009-07-18T17:10:00.000-07:002009-07-18T17:12:15.032-07:002009 - Coldplay - Left Right Left Right Left - EP !Brand new "LIVE" EP from Coldplay !

See comments for link !Music Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09948261310095800902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163840818671066743.post-69414760619121616552009-07-16T16:57:00.000-07:002009-07-16T17:16:15.267-07:002009 - Limp Biskit - The Unquestionable Truth Part 2 !!No reviews found yet, that is how advanced this release is !!

See comments for link !Music Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09948261310095800902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163840818671066743.post-5896624730228120342009-05-20T12:29:00.000-07:002009-05-20T12:34:22.700-07:002009 - Dane Cook - Isolated Incident !

After his last two highly rated specials and multi-platinum selling albums, Dane reinvented his act and took it to the stage in front of 400 people at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood. In a career spanning over 2 decades, the duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have created some of the most beloved and recognizable hits in the world (`West End Girls', `It's A Sin', `New York City Boy', etc.), and sold over 30 million records. Filled with sparkling state of the art pop songs, Yes is an affirmation of the duo's knack for mixing innovative artistry with exuberant commercial appeal. Most of these 13 tales show him at the top of his game, molding the themes and set pieces of horror and suspense fiction into richly nuanced blends of fantasy and psychological realism. The Things They Left Behind, a powerful study of survivor guilt, is one of several supernatural disaster stories that evoke the horrors of 9/11. Like the crime thrillers The Gingerbread Girl and A Very Tight Place, both of which feature protagonists struggling with apparently insuperable threats to life, it is laced with moving ruminations on mortality that King attributes to his own well-publicized near-death experience. Even the smattering of genre-oriented works shows King trying out provocative new vehicles for his trademark thrills, notably N., a creepy character study of an obsessive-compulsive that subtly blossoms into a tale of cosmic terror in the tradition of Arthur Machen and H.P. Lovecraft. Culled almost entirely from leading mainstream periodicals, these stories are a testament to the literary merits of the well-told macabre tale.

See comments for link !Music Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09948261310095800902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163840818671066743.post-62001539179326061772008-10-30T20:27:00.000-07:002008-10-30T20:38:47.815-07:002008 - Red Buddha - China Exotic !Titles such as White Bamboo, Ground Opera, Forbidden City or even Tongli Water Garden, Stone Buddha with the Lind Wong Ensemble, give this production an authentic contemporary musical felling from China.
"China Exotic" reflects the complexity of China and is thus another musical journey through the exotic of China.

See comments for link !

Music Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09948261310095800902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163840818671066743.post-47116687586251907112008-09-19T13:26:00.000-07:002008-09-19T16:46:27.683-07:002008 - Enigma - Seven Lives Many Faces !Seven Lives Many Faces is Enigma's seventh album. This album expands the sound catalogue of previous releases and it is expected to lead to a new Omni-Cultural wave. The lead single "Seven Lives" is a powerful fusion of modern and classical elements. Enigma is an Electronic musical project founded by Michael Cretu, David Fairstein and Frank Peterson in 1990. Cretu is both the composer and the producer; his former wife Sandra often provided vocals on Enigma tracks. Jens Gad co-produced and played guitar on three of the Enigma albums.

See comments for link !Music Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09948261310095800902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163840818671066743.post-49018979222261197972008-09-07T17:59:00.001-07:002008-09-07T18:02:52.752-07:002008 - Lewis Black - Anticipation !Back from his Grammy Award win for Best Comedy Album 2006 for "The Carnegie Hall Performance", Lewis has a whole new set of what's setting him off. On The Fame, it’s as if Gaga took two parts Dance-Pop, one part Electro-Pop, and one part Rock with a splash of Disco and burlesque and generously poured it into the figurative martini glasses of the world in an effort to get everyone drunk with her Fame. 'The Fame is about how anyone can feel famous,' she explains. 'Pop culture is art. It doesn’t make you cool to hate pop culture, so I embraced it and you hear it all over The Fame. But, it’s a sharable fame. I want to invite you all to the party. I want people to feel a part of this lifestyle.' I was prompted to buy it by all the critics and famous authors who compare it to Ludlum, Follett, Forsyth, Trevanian, etc.--all my favorite writers of globe-trotting espionage. RULES OF DECEPTION closely follows the formula set down by those masters, with the idealistic doctor/mountain climber being drawn into a frightening, ever-growing conspiracy and racing the clock to find his enemies and beat them, with plenty of fights, chases, and surprise revelations along the way. I read the book in a matter of hours, and I think most thriller fans will, too.

My one reservation that keeps this from being a 5-star recommendation is the fact that RULES seems to resemble a lot of other big thrillers a bit too much--Reich never quite seems to make this material his own. He has clearly been "inspired" by EYE OF THE NEEDLE, DAY OF THE JACKAL, THE EIGER SANCTION, and the complete works of Robert Ludlum. But, hey, that's a small complaint from a reader who counts all those as faves. If you're looking for a fast, satisfying summer read along these lines, RULES follows the rules as well as any book I've read in a long time. Try it.

See comments for links !Music Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09948261310095800902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163840818671066743.post-50779021145688606072008-08-11T19:50:00.000-07:002008-08-11T19:56:16.972-07:002008 - Robin Cook - Foreign Body (audiobook) !!Jennifer Hernandez is a fourth-year medical student at UCLA, just completing an elective in general surgery, whose world is shattered during a break in an otherwise ordinary day. While relaxing in the surgical lounge of L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, she half-listens to a piece on medical tourism, where first-world citizens travel to third-world countries for surgery. But when she hears her beloved grandmother's name mentioned, her own heart nearly stops: the CNN reporter says Maria Suarez-Hernandez had died, a day after undergoing a hip replacement in New Delhi's Queen Victoria Hospital.

Maria had raised Jennifer and her brothers from infancy, and their bond was unshakable. Still, the news that Maria had traveled to India was a shock to Jennifer, until she realized that it was the only viable option for the hardworking yet uninsured woman. Devastated, and desperate for answers, Jennifer takes emergency leave from school and heads to India, where relations with local officials go from sympathetic to sour as she presses for more information. With the discovery of other unexplained deaths followed by hasty cremations, Jennifer reaches out to her mentor, New York City medical examiner Dr. Laurie Montgomery, who has her own deep connection to Maria.

Laurie, along with her husband, Dr. Jack Stapleton, rushes to the younger woman's side, discovering a sophisticated medical facility with little margin for error. Readers already familiar with Black as a loud-mouthed regular on The Daily Show will be delighted to find he rants just as well on the page as he does in person. Here, he homes in on religion, which he thinks is taken too seriously and therefore is open to ridicule. Black may not care a whit about propriety, but he's serious about waxing comedic about every religion-related angle he can dig up. No one is safe from his dark humor—the Catholic Church, Mormons, people who commit suicide in the name of faith, Jews, and of course Jesus and God are popular topics. Black's essays consistently deliver zingers, like his speculation in The Rapture about how, If Jesus returns to earth... he better have one hell of a website, since he'd have to compete with all the drug-addled young starlets—not to mention online porn. For those not easily offended, who can stomach the F-word every other paragraph or so, Black's irreverence is laugh-out-loud funny. The chapters are short, some extremely so, and perfect for a good laugh—before bedtime prayers, of course. (June 3)
Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.
